Where do you live? And you do need a visa if you're not American.

Here is a website with a list of all the the Thai embassies and consulates overseas. Look for your country or state (for US) and look up the info on visa.

You can also apply for a passport at many post offices. Also you do NOT have to have a social security card despite what anyone tells you. Social Security cards are not a mandatory document even though many in society would tell you otherwise. Apply at the Post Office. You'll probably have to make an appointment. Bring a birth certificate (not a photocopy) and a driver's license. With expedited service, it takes about a week. Otherwise, about 10 days.

Apply tomorrow, first thing. It's good for several years, so you'll have it just in case you decide to do more traveling!

you can go to the AAA building and they say you have to apply for it a year in advance( i don't know how true it is) and I believe you need your ssn card and birth certificate.

You can get a passport at any post office listed and certified by the Dept. of State.

Anytime is a good time. I applied for my passport about a week ago(Friday) and I got it today. I didnt even request for expedited service!
