  1. Without much money, I'd take acting classes thru a nearby community college for starters.  Then audition to participate in Santa Rosa Junior College's Summer Repertory Theatre in N. California during the summer.  See http://www.santarosa.edu & look under Theater Arts Dept.

  2. Look up the legitimacy of schools by viewing their alumni.  If you don't want to attend a school for 2+ years and just want some courses, find out what you need focus on.

Voice is very important for the actor.  It is easy to train and you don't need much money.  Look up established artists and see what level they're at, then bring yourself to a comparable level by practicing everyday. Sing karaoke, or make recordings at home and listen to yourself.

Or you can always start from scratch and get an agent first.  Remember, you do NOT pay the agent until you get paid for a job.  An agent will refer you to classes if required.

Schools can be overrated if you have a natural ability in you.  Just observe. Watch old Hollywood movies.  Watch good foreign films--you will see how acting is so much more than the words you say.  You will eventually find your niche in the business.

    Good luck!
