  1. Homeschooling is 'overseen' by the LOCAL school districts, and you must 'register' and prove that you are 'capable' of teaching your children ... in most states that means you must have a Bachelor's Degree or better, but in other states all that is required is one or two years of 'college level' education.  Go to your local school and talk to the people there, and they should give you all of the information you need.  I don't know where you live, but in some places you can make your own curriculum, others you must teach the school's curriculum for the same year of the student ... but the public schools are REQUIRED to give you the books and even some training if necessary so that you can homeschool your own children.

Please note ... homeschooling means 'schooling a child who is the child or ward of the people in the house ... you can NOT teach the neighbor's kids or kids of friends.  You may join a 'homeschooling group' so the kids can get 'social skills' and take advantage of 'group field trips' and other 'bonuses' normally restricted to 'going to a regular public school.

  2. Go to www.homeschool.org....The answer to making your own curriculum is YES.  I homschooled my son from  6th grade to graduation and we used our own stuff...its easy once you realize what all you can use as curriculum.

    Good Luck!!!!

  3. Just do a google search for homeschooling or homeschool association, there are tons of groups out there that'll give you all the info you could ever want.

As for curriculum, yeah, you could make whatever crazy curriculum you wanted, but I believe most states (I know it was the case for me growing up) require you to take annual assessment tests to keep homeschooling, so you gotta cover the basics. They're not very tough evaluations, however, and homeschoolers tend to do very well in all areas.

  4. go to http://www.HSLDA.org/ It is the Home School Legal Defense Association and it lists the state by state requirements. I also purchased a package from 3Moms.com that came with all the legal stuff filled out I just had to insert my son's names and send it in, it also had sample curriculums.

  5. There is an association that can help you knwo laws and help you if you ever get into trouble with the law... aka : someone trys to turn you ni for homeschooling.

Homeschool: HSLDA-Home School Legal Defense Association  -- for a few bucks a month they will give you a lawyer if anything ever comes up --- But you can find info on laws for FREE

Go to this website : http://www.hslda.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1

You can select your STATE at this link : http://www.hslda.org/hs/state/default.as...

    Hope this is helpful!!!

My mom has been a member for years!! she homeschooled all 12 of her children :-)

  6. I see someone already gave you the link to the state laws.  As far as making your own curriculum, in most states you can, and if the law you look up doesn't specify the curriculum then you can too.

A good outline to make sure you are covering what you should can be found at:

    http://www.worldbook.com/wb/Students?cur...

  7. What country are you in? In Aus, it would be on the Board of Studies website, try googling that.

In Australia in NSW you have a lot of freedom. You set the work and the board of studies looks at it...
