  1. Hello,

    Which excavations are you talking about?  If you are talking about the catacombs, there are several different agencies that offer tours.  You can visit catacombsociety.org for some info on what the have to offer. If you are talking about the excavations under St. Peters basillica and under the parking lot of the vatican museums, you are talking about the scavi tour and the via triumphalis tour.  You can go to the vatican website, vatican.va, for info on those.  

    If you are talking general excavations, you can visit the forums of Rome.  You can easily walk through them.  They are excavating near Trajans forums and markets now but you can still see what they are doing and what they have uncovered.  They are also doing restoration work on the Domus Aurea (Nero's golden house) but you can still take the tour.
