  2. Find someone you know who has a stick shift vehicle and is willing to teach you.  Practice in an open parking lot.  It only takes about an hour or so to get it down really.

Just to add, i definitely agree that you won't want to drive an automatic again (I hate my Automatic Blazer) and its a lot safer driving a stick.  Much easier to keep control of the car and its one less hand for talking on a cell phone or texting a friend like some idiots out there.

  3. That's a tough one.  I learned in highschool on a motorbike.  I still drive a stick to this day and love it.  You need to find someone to teach you.  It's not something you can learn by reading books.  It's a feel for the vehicle, a sound.

Find someone older than you that has one and ask them if they will teach you.  I tried.  My daughter knows how and has a stick, but her friend was unteachable.

Good Luck, and stay out of rush hour traffic for a while (it's really hard).

  4. Start by watching these videos then find a friend to let you practice with their car.Find a big parking lot to practice in. http://www.expertvillage.com/video-serie...

  5. I guess since my experience in learning how to drive a standard transmission was just by advice from my friends and then getting behind the wheel of a car, I'd recommend the same.   I know when I bought my son his first new car, which was standard transmission by his request, and he had no experience in such, my wife and I sat in the car with him, advised him and then let him try it.  He eventually got it done and now doesn't want to drive anything else.  I don't know of a "school" on how to train someone how to drive a standard transmission, but then my kids are sure I was raised in the proverbial dark ages.  Go to someone you know drives a standard transmission car and talk with them and then find a car and a safe location on how to drive it.  The big issues are how to get the car rolling in first gear and reverse.  Once  you've got those down,  the rest is a piece of cake.  But, a warning here.  Once you learn how, you may never want to drive an automatic transmission again.  Have fun.  God Bless you.
