  1. Try Craigslist for a roommate (still highly unlikely)

  2. You can go to the homeless center in downtown Chicago. You probably elgible to get on section 8 housing. If none of those work,  You might have to either live with your friends/family or live in the housing projects for no more than $50 per month.

  3. You are not going to find a place in Chicago that charges $200/month.

You have problems to be worked out that you have not discussed on this web site.

Go to one of the sources below and explain your problem. Get the number on the web site and call immediately. You do not have time to spare.

  4. Do you have friends who you can pay rent to? Maybe to sleep on thier couch??? Or can you get subsudised housing? Or a shelter.

  5. I would suggest trying to get yourself to WI and into a homeless shelter and on some type of assistance. I hate to say this but I think WI does have more because unfortunately we have been getting alot of the Chicago problems coming this way because of it (assistance programs)

I'm not to judge and know every situation is different and that there are people0le out there who legitimately fell on hard times and ARE tyring to better themself and just need a bit of help doing so.

Try getting yourself Emergency Assisitance @ maybe the Job Center/Human Resources building right over the WI/IL border.  If they can't help you (or even if they can) they may direct you to the Shalom Center or another facility.

When you do get back on your feet stay in WI as they rents are much more affordable....not $200/month affordable but....hey maybe you can meet someone and share rent. It isn't unplasible to find a decent/safe place for $550-$600

  6. No where because the average rent for apprements is about 500 to $1000 a month. Get a job.

  7. You couldn't live on $200 a week, let alone a month, at least not in Chicago. The cheapest rent in the cheapest place in Chicago would cost you at least twice that much a month, forget the food and utilities.

Call around and see if you can find some financial help.

Chicago is not the place to go homeless in, especially with winter coming.

    Good luck!

  8. The projects, but they tore most of those down. The only way you could pay $200 is to get a section 8 voucher to cover most of the rent for you....but they won't even allow people to go on the waiting list for that. I would agree with others and suggest you go to a homeless shelter.

I've tried getting into the subsidized apartment buildings and they all turned me away saying their waiting lists are closed also.  There is a list of subsidized apartments in illinois at http://www.ihda.org/Map.aspx. You could try calling them but almost all of them are guaranteed to tell you they have nothing available and the waiting list is closed. I would suggest going in person because I'm beginning to wonder if they are required to tell you that over the phone. I called some of the ones that said online that they have apartments available and even those told me that they DIDN'T have anything available. You may get a better response in person.

I want to add that I'm very sorry to hear that you're going through this. I know how scary it can be when you're getting really broke. I recently graduated college with honors and I've been looking for work for almost a year. I finally got a job doing telemarketing making minimum wage. I seriously thought I was going to be homeless and I still don't know what the future holds for me because who knows if this telemarketing job will work out.  It's tough in this city......

    I feel your pain!

  9. There are a few low-cost(transient) hotels in lakeview that charge anywhere from $110-$150 a week. You either have to share a bathroom with the people next door or walk down the hall to use the bathroom and shower. There is no kitchen in the building, but you are allowed to have a microwave or small convention oven in the room.  You also need to be aware that some of the other tenants are not very "trustworthy".  The names of these hotels are:  The Chateau Hotel (3838 N. Broadway 773. 525-8310), The Diplomat (3208 N. Sheffield 773. 248-3500), Abbott Hotel (721 W. Belmont,773. 248-2700) and the Belair Hotel(424 W. Diversey 773. 248-4000)
