  1. *** Sorry man -  but it just burns my ___ (you know what) when people feel they must answer a question but have no idea what they are talking about...***

Fact is... People do live on their boats in NYC.  One of my very best friends in fact lives on his boat in the 72nd St. Marina.  It is a really nice place (City Marina - in fact) where you can legally and officially live aboard in NYC...  It is the 72nd Street Marina.  There is also Surfside 3 marina on 70st. and Chelsea piers at 20th street. and several private marinas all along and inbetween 20th st and 79th st.  At 79th St. is Riverside Park Marina and Boat Basin.. there are other places as well... Some of the other Marinas don't really allow "full-time" live aboards - though many (if not most, really are)...  It is one of those cases of "I'm not living aboard I'm just spending lots of time on the boat"... kinda deals.  Some of the marinas are not insured for residential use and they're afraid of someone slipping off an icy dock into the water and drowning in winter, (which, of course, has happened).

There is also Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City. It has its own ferry that drops you off next to where the WTC was, I had a boat there for years... You can see all of lower Manhattan from your cockpit and you could be across to Manhattan in a dinghy in about 5 mins. It's nuts, its crazy... I agree... but it is also liveaboard year-round in NYC.

As a footnote... if getting a boat is contingent on you living on it - you better secure your boat slip first...  there are a lot of people in fact that do this... but you have a lot of options up the Hudon River and across the Bay.

    Happy & Safe Boating!

  2. In NYC?  You ever wonder why there are nobody doing that?  The dock slip cost more than an apartment.  Forgetaboutit.

    Good Luck...
