  1. you cannot live on a boat on lake erie.

  2. A better question would be why would you want to live on Lake Erie?  I'm about a half mile away and it's looking ugly.  Couldn't imagine living on it.

  3. Even if your boat were covered in plastic. With the lake effect

breezes and the snow, and your boat is not insulated. You are

in for one long cold winter, and it can be very depressing in

that boat. Dress warm, and keep your cell phone charged.

  4. You'd have to check around but If you're set up for it, you can do OK.  I lived on board a sailboat for almost ten years in Lake Ontario.

You'll need access to about 60 amps of power for a mid-sized boat (30-40 ft). Shrink wrapping is a wonderful thing and adds some extra heat.  On sunny days in February, we could sit in the cockpit, wearing jeans and a tee shirt, "suckin' back" on a wobbly pop.

You'll need two or three heaters and we've found that ceramic cube  and baseboard style heaters worked best.

To keep the ice away,  you need to suspend an "ice eater" or "bubbler" under the boat.  This has the effect of keeping an open area in the ice for your boat to float in.

A mid or late-winter storm is an experience to behold.  When you have 60-80 knots (we actually recorded 84 knots of air one January night) of air screaming across the dock in the middle of the night,  you tend to pay attention.

It may not be for everyone but if you're the right type of person, it can be an amazing experience.

  5. Key West

  6. There should be a harbor master, or there might be a forestry station near the parks you need to check with them for year round marinas. Try this site its the river which empties into Lake Erie: http://vermilionohioharbourtown.homestea...

  7. Inclement weather make this something you would not see very much on Lake Erie however I have seen it in many marinas from Buffalo to Toledo in Marinas that offer power hook-ups and bubbles to keep the water from freezing around the hull. Many live aboard boaters relocate to the southern climates during winter months via the Erie Canal and Inter-coastal waterway along the Eastern Seaboard. Staying on Lake Erie would be a challenge for even the heartiest of souls. I know of one person in a protected harbor of the Sawmill Creek Resort near Huron Ohio that lived year around aboard his classic vessel for quite a few years. He still looked cold in July!

  8. Some cops or security will come to hassle you, I would guess.

  9. The lake freezes in the winter.  I live about 10 minutes from the Maumee Bay on the western corner of Lake Erie.  It freezes so thick that some people snowmobile on it out to some of the islands.

  10. Not year round... Because the lake and rivers often freeze...

Any marina with room for a boat large enough to live on will generally allow you live on it... during the boating season...

  11. lake erie - freezes so it would not be a good thing but check out these house boats

at presque isle state park  located by the coast guard station down from beach  11- these are house boats
