There are a lot of places where you can post an ad for free.  

Personally, classified ads websites are a great way to post your ad, and many of them are free, though some do require registration.

I personally like http://backpage.com (choose a city, posting in a single city is free) and http://www.usfreeads.com, but they're focused on the USA - I'm not sure what country you're from or targeting.
