i have a great story started. i feel it will be a best seller (i hope). my question is, i dont have any money for an agent, but are there places where i can send my manuscript, or even part of it, and see if i can have it published? i really want to be a writer.

also, how does that work? would i get an advance?

  1. Complete Curious gave good advice.  I would add get Writer's Market & The Literary Agents' Guide and read the articles before looking for a publisher.  You'll be surprised how much work you still have ahead of you.

  2. send it to my email and ill publish it

  3. It doesn't cost you anything for an agent they just get a fraction of the profits you make from your book. but a publisher will not take an unfinished book idea unless you are a professional writer already. I would go with an agent because sending your work straight to the publisher is very difficult and very unrewarding mostly.

You will be offered a sum of money for your novel if a publisher wants it and it can possibly be an advance.
