Where can i purchase a car harness for a child with special needs?

my son is 6 yrs old and is autistic he still requires a car seat, but a car seat his size is in the thousands of dollars and the stores only sell car seats for babies and small children, he needs on that will accommodate his size and mabey i can use for mor years to come, please help, would medicaid pay for the car seat because this is a safety issue for him when he is be transported in a vehicle. if medicaid will pay for it how do i go about getting them to do so, cause i already have a written doctors statement saying he needs it.

  1. Yes, Medicaid will pay for it. You need the special needs carseat vendor to submit it and see when they approve they can order or send it to you.


  2. Currently, the best resource for special needs carseats is a local hospital.  

    You should also be able to contact a local fitting station and a certified technician should be able to put you in contact with someone who can direct you to a source for these carseats.

  3. Look up a company in the yellow pages--one that  builds special needs vehicles with lifts for wheelchairs--I am sure they can help you. This is NOT a hard problem--I wish you would have said where you are.  Ask a driver that is using a handicapped transport vehicle where they bought the van--they company phone number should be easy to get this way. You need to call Medicaid billing people and ask the legal questions. You need the seat--so get moving now!!
