Queensland police are trying to find out the identity of a man in a critical condition, after he was hit by a car as he was crossing the road in Surfers Paradise.

The man is in his mid-40s and was walking across the intersection of Ferny and Cyprus Avenues late last night when he was hit by a sedan.

He is being treated for critical head injuries.
