Where can i record my guitar through a program?

i just want to record song through my computer.i have a speaker and headphone,or whatever.what should I do?:(

Theres two cheap and simple ways to do this:

1) Download Audacity.  Its free, open source audio editing software.  Very good for being free and easy to use.

Does your amp have a headphone jack on it?  Probably does.  You will need to get an audio cable that looks like this:

If your headphone jack on your amp is the big fat kind you may also need one of these:

This lets you plug the smaller audio cable into the big fat headphone jack.

Now plug your audio cable into the headphone jack on the amp and the other end into the "line-in" jack on your computer.  Use Audacity to record from "line-in".

2) NOW THE OTHER WAY you can do this is to just get a microphone, and plug it into the microphone jack on your computer.  You will still need to use Audacity.  Once you have Audacity installed and running, set Audacity to record from Microphone.

I think you will not be as pleased recording from a microphone as you would if you recorded from a audio cable like in the first example.  The microphone will not be as clear and it will give you a bunch of background noise you dont want.

Either way you should now be able to record what you play on to your computer!  Have fun.

Most computers have a sound recorder. In windows it't like:

programs > accessories > entertainment > sound recorder.

Sound recorder will record thru the line input or microphone input of your sound card, into a .wav file.

If you have an electric guitar all you need is an adapter to plug into the sound card audio input.

With an acoustic guitar, it would be easier to use a microphone.
