Have you considered Ebay or Craislist.com? Ebay allows you to see what sells and for how much. Craigslist.com allows you to post an add specifically to your area. Garage sales generally tend to sell books for dimes and quarters. Good luck!

The Strand Bookstore on Broadway and 12th buys used books, but they don't pay very much.

and explain to them you have books and want to sell and ask for direction in doing so
