My grandfather recently passed away, giving me his shop. He has four huge solar panels, about 2×2 yards each. I live in a farming town in Texas... is there anywhere i can sell these? What if i drive somewhere else to sell them?

  1. You can probably sell them to a University science program that uses that kind of stuff (I think there are quite a few in Texas). You might also consider keeping them and hooking them up to a small motor to save on energy bills. Lastly, you could auction them off on the internet.

    Anyway... good luck!

  2. Try Craig's list that way you get local buyers who can pick up your panels and you won't have to deal with shipping such a large item.

In case you are not familiar with Craig's list just google craigslist-----.com filling in the nearest city near your location. For example, craigslistamarillo.com

  3. Try selling them on eBay as local pick up only. They should sell easily and some people won't mind driving some distance to pick them up.

  4. Texas should be a great place to sell them. Ebay would be a good starting place.

To sell them you will need to know what their electrical output is when facing directly toward the sun on a clear day... the maximum or rated capacity. Then the voltage and watts.

If they have battery charging controller, that is significant.

The life expectancy of solar cells is finite, so it is also important to list date of manufacture, or at least have it available.

  5. I bet there's some ranchers that would be able to use those to run a waterpump for watering livestock in remote areas.  Post a note at the local feed store.  Also go to the local NRCS-Soil & Water Conservatoin District office and mention it.  They may know of individuals who would buy them.
