  1. I'm not sure about NY but here in FL you have to be the one to homeschool your child in your home ... hence, homeschool.  Try to check on online classes or co-op groups in your area.  My son does online courses that I'm not comfortable with (he's in HS).

    Good luck !!

  2. Why don't you try a virtural school. This a great program for parents who want thier childrent to excell fast or not be in a public school persay.Check out this article

  3. I would start with... in the home. Then I would look into help through a co-op, for subjects you do not feel okay with teaching.

Check into your state laws and see what is and isn't acceptable for homeschooling.

  4. What you're looking for is a private school and that's something different entirely.

  5. New York has pretty strict laws regarding homeschooling; honestly, I'd check with some homeschooling groups in your area first to see if it's even legal for someone else to homeschool him (unless they're a certified teacher) and second to see if anyone in the group would be willing to work with him during the day.

Something to remember is that his instruction doesn't need to happen between 8 and 5; if he's old enough (I'd say over 12 or so), you can teach him at night and he can be responsible for doing the work during the day while someone else watches him.  The actual instruction part likely wouldn't take more than an hour, particularly if you select curriculum that will teach him by CDRom/DVD for some subjects.

  6. See the laws here http://www.hslda.org/laws/analysis/New_Y...

Your best bet is through a family that's already homeschooling. But are you prepared to pay what you might need to?

There are families where the parents work full-time and they still manage to do the homeschooling themselves. Sometimes these families purchase pre-packaged programs that are straight forward and the that kids can work through more or less on their own. One family I read of assigned the work to the kids before the parents went off to work (the kids were old enough to be left on their own), the parents checked in during the day, and then when they came home, they'd look over it and provide help where needed. Yes, it means for some very independent work and may need lots of check-ins at first.
