  1. There   is   a    website    that   has   tournaments  listing   from   each   state   unfortunately    I    can't    recall    the   site.

  2. Check at you local Billiard hall.  They will know of the local and out of area tournaments.  It promotes their business, so most of them keep up on the tournaments.

  3. There are lots of tournys out there, some will get you a state or national ranking, some are just local, some are handicapped, some are scratch (no handicap).  Call your local pool halls, and with your parents permission, if they'll take you, your local bars, some will actually let you in for the tournys depending on local laws, especially if you bring a rooting section that's legal drinking age.  If you're playing a handicap tourny, you may start off as what they call scratch, a top rank, and they'll adjust from there based on play, the more you play the more they adjust so it may take you 3-4 times to win a match, others will start you in a middle ranking and you'll have a better chance.  Often rankings will be on a 1-5 or 3-7 basis, meaning as a 3 playing against a 7 you may have to win 2 or 3 games vs their 6 or 7 depending on how it's run, some places you have to win 1 game less than your ranking to win the match others it is your ranking.  Often a lot of tournys are double elimination, meaning you have to lose 2 matches to be out, this is good in a handicap system because you get to play in 2 matches that will go to adjusting your handicap each tourny, a nice thing when you're starting out.

    Hope this helps,
