Where can i submit my idea of a new holiday to congress of USA??

i just read somewhere that you can do it and if they accept it you have a new holiday, i would like to make a new one so is there like a website or an address i could send my idea to??

i would send it to your local congressperson and probably

Senator.in Washington. I would think you would need to do a petition for it too.stating others want it too.But try who knows...

I've tried to get one and never heard back from the senators of my own state or any other state I sent it to, or congress:

Here's my idea:

Family History Day (friday or a monday in March) with March as Family History Month.

Everyone has a family - we all come from somewhere - from someone - it's a 3 day weekend federal holiday so people can go "find their roots" and specifically meet their family.

It would be in the school year so everyone in school can learn about their family in school and share the heritage that is america - rather than a history day or month that focuses only on one race or culture.

My family now celebrates it - (although we are thinking of moving it to august) - we have a meal that is ethnic from our family history (I've learned to cook french, italian, british, welsh, german, native american)- and we even exchange gifts - the gifts are of historical or family origin - i.e. the last time we gave out family crests with family surnames printed on "parchment" - and another year we gave out journals - and even family photos - I gave my wife a thistle pendant necklace in honor of her scottish heritage.    We even go visit places belonging to our family heritage in the area - grandparents houses, cemeteries, homesteads (I live out west, my family pioneered the west before the trails even started).   But a THREE DAY WEEKEND....JUST....to spend with family?   Come ON!  That would be the best holiday in this country since christmas!

Like the others, I believe the first step is the contact your congressman/woman or your representative.  They if this is something you want submitted to congress, then it has to be something done by them.  We the people can not submit bill to Congress.  That is why we have the political system we do. Good luck.  By the way, what is the new holiday you want to propose?
