The Aquarium of the Pacific, in San Pedro.

Not only is it closer and less expensive than Disneyland or Legoland, I think it's more up a 3-year-old's alley.

I took my son and a friend to Disneyland for my son's 4th birthday, and they got so tired so fast that we had to leave; too much stimulation and a horrendous waste of money. They lasted 2 hours!

All kids love animals, and the aquarium certainly fills the bill. They may have enough energy left over to have a picnic, and will have learned lots, too!
