We are from right outside the St. Louis area, on the IL side. We will be driving so I would like to make it close. We arent looking for a romantic getaway, just somewhere we can enjoy ourselves. Im looking for a place with a good night scene and that also has some culture or history?

Any ideas?

  1. Cleveland!  My God, this city is amazing.  It's so full of history (the Connecticut Western Reserve), and the night life is beyond awesome.  It's all down at the Warehouse district and the flats.  There are tons of funky restaurants and bars, full of people.  The life of the area is centered around downtown and Public Square, there's a sweet mall called Tower City, and a lively open area called Public Square.

A classic venue of the area is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, it's in a cool building, right on Lake Erie, with music for most tastes, I personally like the U2 exhibit.

While you're here, make sure you see the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall, it's one of the finest in the world, ranked "the finest in America" by The New Yorker.  You won't here a single missed note there- an experience to be had.  The Cleveland Orchestra is in the most culturally dense square mile in North America, there's the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Cleveland Botanical Gardens.

You simply must come to this city, it's clean, safe, easy to navigate on the RTA subway, and very friendly.  it's where the east coast meets the midwest.   hope to see you around, because Cleveland does Rock.

  2. this may sound a bit on the silly side but what about Branson, MO? I know they don't have gambling but it's really kind of a cool place. I mean if you are looking for different.  Great shows, nice people, rides, all kinds of stuff. :)

  3. How about six flags?  Or Wisconsin Dells?  Busch Gardens?

  4. Memphis, TN is about 4 hours from you.  There's plenty to do there, and plenty of culture & history.  Or how about Chicago?  That's about 5 hours from you, so it may be farther away than you would like.  Chicago has tons to do, though.
