I love vinyls and I want to buy some fairly cheap ones, used or otherwise. Are there any good places to look for them online or locally?

  1. Ebay is a good place to look online.

Locally, try charity shops or thrift stores, or whatever they're called where you live. Also, flea markets and places like that.

  2. God, so many. Start with garage sales. People are still clearing out attics and basements of stuff from the 70's and 80's, you know? Mostly it's country or pop, but there's some hard rock, punk, obscure local music, .etc if you're lucky and find the cool house with good records from parents who were once upon a time hip. Expect to pay 25 cents to two bucks each with few exceptions.

Also, try thrift shops and the nattier antique shops. They have a good selection of records, though they tend to be picked over of anything rock or interesting to people under twenty-five. So many religious records! Whatever you find, usually 50 cents to two dollars.

Lastly, some places have used record shops. They have walls upon walls of vinyl; a few where I live probably have a hundred thousand discs each! Condition tends to be better, but the prices are also higher. Rumours is probably three bucks, but that Finnish punk KBD 7" from 1982 is likely closer to 150$. Some shops are outright usurious, while others just ask what things are really worth... and unfortunately seem to know the real value to a collector of just about every disc. Plenty of undervalued (by collectors) great stuff, though, and one can spend all day in those stacks.

You can also try places Online like Gemm, but then you have to pay shipping on top of the collector pricing. It's best for when you just need a certain record that's pretty obscure, and don't wantto spend years looking.

On a truly last note, prown Craigslist's media section. People sometimes give away or cheaply sell a crate's worth of LPs. Could be anything from hard rock to 60's country!
