Question:

Where can one get Kava in Auckland? Is there a restriction on the quantity a tourist can carry from Newzealand

My mother has gone on a tourist visa to Newzealand. I want some Kava from there as it's not avilble in India. She has checked with the neighbourhood dairy there, but they have some unlabeled stuff with them without any date of manufacture or anything-which I think will look very suspicious. Can some body suggest a good source for Kava in Newzealand.

I hope it's not banned for a tourist to carry it in one's luggage from Newzealand to India via Bangkok. Is there any restriction on the amount a single person can carry in luggage? Please suggest a supermarket or awholesale source where on can get Kava in decent packaging, at a reasonable rate. Please help.

  1. Bringing ANY plant material into the country is illegal unless it is declared on the Entry Form.

Suggest you contact an ethnic food shop, or perhaps a Trade Aid shop.

These shops will be listed in the Yellow Pages.

  2. You probably need to first find out from customs to see if you can bring some into this country. Isn't Kava a herb? I may be wrong, but if it is, your mom could go to a health food store or some place that specializes in herbs as a start.

Ask Customs if there's  a requirement on quanities if it is considered legal.
