Hey there, I've just found out that double yellow lines will be painted all down my street! now there is never been a problem with congestion or cars blocking the roadway and there is no alternative parking (except in the next street over) and I don't fancy l leaving my car out of sight and a good 5 min walk away! so I was wondering if anyone knows of any laws or regulations that state there can be no yellowlines in what is a housing estate thats no where near the main road? if anyone can help it would be most welcome!

  1. The council can place double yellow lines anywhere were it thinks it can get revenue for non-compliance easily. Cynical but true. I think sometimes road safety does come into it

    but not often.

Those of us old enough to remember parking meters first being installed in places were we had previously been told it was dangerous to park. It it any wonder why so called safety instructions or honoured by their breach more often than compliance

  2. I suppose the council can put yellow lines wherever they will make money from illegal parking and parking fines.

    Sad and wrong but true

  3. alas any where the tax payer can be clamped or fined.

check at the council office for councillors addresses .

are there yellow lines on those streets~phone or e-mail the sun ~mirror or star.

  4. Double yellow lines down the middle of a roadway indicates a no passing zone.

  5. Just paint them black late at night

  6. They should have published the fact that they were going to change the restrictions on that road. It would have been either by signs locally (normally very small signs), a notice in the local paper or some similar means.

You then have the opportunity to challenge this.

If they have not advertised the fact they are changing the restrictions then (I believe) they are not legal.

I would contact the council and find out when they advertised the change and if there were any objections etc.

The best way to fight this is to ensure that all the residents of the street are on your side and for them to also send in their objections.

    Good luck

  7. Double yellow lines in the center of the road are put down to prevent passing in those areas.

  8. Sorry but the Council can do just what it likes regarding yellow lines there is no law to prevent it happening.
