I ask this because I discovered the Milk train from Greenford Station to Paddington and today in the tube strike I took a train from West Ruislip to Paddington on the Chilton Service, which usually goes to Marylebone from West Ruislip(Both of these station are also the Central line of LUL.

  1. Ealing, Reading and all stations South West (Taunton, Exeter, Plymouth, Truro etc.)

  2. The primary operator at Paddington is First Great Western which runs mainline (limited stop) trains to Cardiff (change to Arriva Wales for stations further west of Cardiff), Penzance (via Bristol and via Newbury), Oxford via Didcot, and Gloucester. They also have suburban trains to Reading. Another operator is Heathrow Express (owned by BAA) which runs electric trains nonstop to Heathrow airport. On Sundays, Chiltern Rail run via the Park Royal linkine and West Ruislip to Banbury and Birmingham - on weekdays from Marylebone station. Finally there are the sub-surface lines of LUL - Hammersmith & City, Circle, District, and Bakerloo lines.

  3. From Paddington you can get to all of the southwest, west, Birmingham and Wales. Certain trains used to go to Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow - but I don't know if they still run those ! ! !

  4. In theory, from Paddington you can get to anywhere in the country, same as any station. As long as you have the time and knowledge to do so.

Scheduled services however as has been said run mainly west towards Devon, Cornwall, Wales and the West Midlands.
