My community center is having a book drive this summer and we would like suggestions of where to donate the books to. It has to be in the NY-NJ area.

Thanks!

  1. Try a School  Library first then the Public Library.

  2. Hospitals would love to get them . . .the books & magazines there r ususally over a year or more old.

  3. Children's libraries, school libraries, small town libraries, after school day care centers, youth centers.   Up to date technical and career books would be helpful for women's shelters and half way houses.

Community centers for senior citizens, places where they do dialysis, (people having this treatment have to stay in place 2-3 hours several times a week, reading or watching TV is about all they can do pass the time.)

Think of all the people who would enjoy reading, but who might not have the resources to buy books--that's your target client.  Libraries in particular are being squeezed across the nation.  Many have lost their budgets to buy new books and magazine subscriptions.  Giving them books would mean the greatest possible readership for the donated books.  (And if some happen to be duplicates, the library can sell them to raise funds.)
