is there any universal rule about where you are allowed to anchor your boat? can you anchor in shallow waters near the island in exotic places?

  1. Grab a cruising guide for the area you will be cruising. It will talk about traditional anchorages around the islands.

    Couple rules:

    Not in a high traffic area

    Don't drop your hook on coral.

    Don't drag your anchor across high-voltage electric cables.


  2. Don't anchor your boat from the stern, anchor from bow.

    Make sure you have appropriate slack. Too much slack will make it so people can drive over your anchor line. Too little will cause the bow to dive into the waves.

    Also do not leave your boat unattended while anchored in heavy current areas.

  3. it is more advisable to anchor your boat in a sandy area as in exotic places you may be damaging coral. also don't anchor where there are signs like 'Submarine Cable'. anchoring your boat comes down to common sense, so you should think about "are you damaging the environment and are you in any threat to yourself and your boat?"
