I have wanted a jackdaw for years, ever since a friend of mine nursed an injured one back to health that became slightly tame and would come when you called it, but eventually left to rejoin the wild.

i would like, preferably, to get an egg, so that i would be "mum" from birth. if not a fully weaned adolescent would be acceptable.

what i am wondering is, where do i obtain an egg or a young 'un? aside from raiding a nest that is!!

  1. It is usually illegal to keep a bird that is native to your own country as a pet. You can keep non-native species of crow that are obtained from a breeder that breeds them specifically for pets so they are not illegally taken out of the wild.

  2. Hi,

Firstly, It's illegal to take wild birds and their eggs.

You may find a breeder of Jackdaws if you look through the Cage & Avairy Birds Magazine. They must be ABCR. (Avairy Bred Club Rung). Very often breeders hand rear these types of birds as they make excellent pets and can mimic human voice.

Jays make good cage birds too, often they can be trained to do tricks.
