  1. There are many bird breeder's in your area.

Do some google.com searches and look at several sites in your area.

Call a local Avian vet and ask for breeder's near you.

Buy a copy of Bird Talk magizine and find breeder's.

Local Bird Store's, newspaper ad's, craigslist.com in your state and city.

  2. Do not buy a parrot!  There are hundreds, thousands of rescue parrots waiting in foster care for good homes.  If you buy from a pet store or a breeder, you are encouraging them to continue this atrocious behaviour!  Birds are not meant to be pets, but we have to be responsible for what we have already tamed.  I have 7 birds, all rescues.  I would NEVER breed or buy!  Do an internet search for rescues in your area- you'll find a great bird, and it will make your heart feel good too!

Addendum after seeing the person's post below mine: I see that this person claims to be a board-certified avian vet.  If this is true, I am sorry for her patients, because she is obviously after money, and not caring at all about the health and safety of the birds.  Any avian vet who truly cares for the well-being of the animal would agree that artificial breeding is unsafe and morally wrong.  I urge you to consider rescuing over buying!  And I am in no way affiliated with PETA.

  3. If this will be your first bird, I would suggest a conure. Macaws are extremely loud, messy, destructive, you name it! A green-cheeked conure would probably fit your household well, so shoot for one of those. Pionus are relatively quiet birds as well.

As for finding the bird, have you tried www.craigslist.com? If not, i would highly suggest it, as I see birds on there all the time for sale!

  4. myparrot.com

  5. http://www.ewpr.net/

Or you could go to Petsmart, thats where i got my amazon =]

  6. Oh brother another Peta pusher arrives at the corral!  Birds have been domesticated for years now, so get over yourself, which is why you have them in your home!  If you want a macaw, find a breeder and not a pet store.  If you are a first time bird owner, do NOT get a macaw as your first bird.  You'll regret it, LOL!!  Please educate yourself first about the species you really want.  If i can help you in any way, just let me know.  Really let me know!!
