Where can you find info on what the best schools in a particular area are?

I'm curious if local governments or school districts would have info available online about test scores and such, and how I could find that info. I'm just starting to look into this now, well before my husband and I decide to have kids.

You could check out http://www.greatschools.net/

They have a lot of good information about schools.

Most schools also have a website that they maintain themselves.  You could search for that.

Look to your newspapers they run this type of information every now and again.  Plus ask around to other parents.
