Clam Chowder is an American dish right? It might be hard to find in supermarkets, and I've never found it in a resteraunt. Try searching for it on the net.

But I live on the East coast, so it might be more avaliable in Perth.

some gourmet store might be able to get you canned clams, but as far as I am aware we don't actually get 'clams' in WA.

are clams anything like pippy's?

as a fairly good substitute, you might want to try Clancy's fish pub (fremantle or applecross) for a tasty seafood chowder.  If you have a decent recipe it might be worth trying scallops as a subistitute for clams.

trust me, Clancy's Fish Pub Seafood Chowder is definitely a bowl of heaven... hmmmm, I think I know where I am going for lunch today!?
