  1. Go to any major bookstore and you should be able to find it.  Also check with comic book stores.  They usually carry a nice selection.  It would be better if you could play the game with someone experienced though.  Get a better feel for it that way.

  2. There is the newest version of the paper game & past versions. There's a book for players, a book for the referee, and a book describing monsters to fight. And you'll need some dice.

The newest version will be sold at bookstores. The new books will cost you.

On the other hand, you can get download files of the old versions from online bookstores for around $5 a book/file.

  3. Most major book retailers will have it in stock.  You can also buy them online, including PDF versions.  However, if you have a Gaming Store nearby, you might want to start there.  Look for hobby, comic, collectible card, or game stores.

As for cost, the three core books: Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and the Monster Manual; are required to get all the rules.  The MSRP is $35 each, though used ones online are about $15-20.  You'll need at least one set of polyhedral dice, but several would be better.  Those are only a few bucks for a set, but fancy ones can be pricier.  And if you're new to the hobby, you may want to buy a module (an already prepared adventure) which is priced similar to the other books.

  4. most hobby stores have it. It will cost approx $100 for the books and a module.
