  1.     i buy all of my canvass at walmart they are not so expensive as the rest of the stores.if you have a walmart store near you . you could go and shop around.i also buy my my oil paints and brushes there also.ann.

  2. www.Utrecht.com is also a great place to get supplies.

  3. An art store?

  4. Might try a plumbing supplier.

Heavy muslin was used as a  wrap  over insulation on steam pipes.

Not exactly canvas, but I had a roll of the stuff & used it for years.

Way cheaper than bulk canvas from art  stores.

Easily tacked to even large stretchers & when primed, shrinks flat & tight.

    Best regards

  5. www.dickblick.com

    www.utrecht.com

Both are big-box stores that sell bulk cotton and linen canvas.

  6. Don't go retail. You will spend more for less. If you are looking for canvas, your best bet is an online art supply store.

I have had great success with

    Cheap Joe's Art Stuff

    http://www.cheapjoes.com/art-supplies/48...

    And Daniel Smith Art Supplies

    http://www.danielsmith.com/search.asp

Both these links will take you to canvas. You can search from there.

  7. Buy it wholesale. I am sure it would be much cheaper. Check out this site:

  8. Your best bet, buy it by the roll. Then you would have to stretch it yourself, which you should learn anyways.

If that's not an option, Michaels gives 50% discounts in the mail on Sundays, depending where you live. I used to collect a bunch of them, they come in handy let me tell you.

  9. Have you tried a fabric store? I have also used canvas drop sheets that can be purchased at hardware stores like Home Depot or Rona.

I just did a quick Google search and found:

    and

  10. Michael's is the last place I would go for inexpensive anything to do with art!

I would look online.  You may think shipping would make it cost more, but canvas is not that heavy to ship, just bulky, and you would probably save a bundle.  If you have a local art store, you might be able to get a student or bulk discount.

  11. Look in your local yellow pages for a tent and awning resource store. I buy my primed canvas for 7.00 a yard there and you can get it unprimed for less (I just hate doing that) its actually about 53 inches wide too. Also you can buy primed canvas on the roll at JoAnns (50.00) and such-check cheapjoesartstuff.com and others online too-
