Where can you get liquid boric acid?

I am doing this for a science project and I need to know where I can get it. If it only comes in the powdered form, how can I dissolve it without diluting it that much?

  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boric_acid

says you can prepare it with sulfuric acid and "borate minerals"

  2. You might try making some with borax and water...20 Mule Team Borax  told me that it was 99.5% percent straight borax. So when I need to use borax, that is what I use. It is cheaper than buying it in the small bottles, but "Borax" and "Boric acid" are not the same.

Borax is Na2B4O7-10H2O, Hydrated sodium borate

    Boric acid is H3BO3

You should be able to get some at a local drug store or try the medical section of most large grocerie stores.

I do not know if Home Depot or Lowes sells it.

  3. The melting point of crystalline boric acid is 169 degrees C., but I doubt that's what you're talking about.  Its solubility in water is 5.7 g/100 ml (25°C).  That's the least dilute aqueous solution you can make unless you make a supersaturated solution.  The crystalline form should be readily available at any drug store.  It's the only known acid which is beneficial to the eye.
