  1. Look on ebay. I did, and i managed to buy flashcards of the hiragana, katakana and kanji symbols, and have learned both the hiragana and katakana alphabets in less than a month! Kanji is a bit more difficult though... I also managed to buy software for £3 that is basically 90 half hour lessons (one each day, so that's 3 month's work) that teach you the essentials of  the japanese language, (btw, the software was pimsleur, which is supposed to be really effective and expensive lol). i have already learned how to say;

    good morning/afternoon/evening,

How are you (and appropriate replies),

    Please, thank you, you're welcome,

where is hibia/shinjuku avenue? (the two main avenues in tokyo),

    i would like to/don't want to/can/can't eat/drink,

all of the numbers up to 99,

how to ask for and tell the time,

and lots of other phrases that are really helpful.

They are all on mp3 format, so you listen to them on your mp3 player in a quiet place and repeat out loud what you are taught to help you learn. this also means that you learn pronunciation aswel! All of the things i have listed i have managed to pick up in just 16 of those 90 lessons, so that tells you how effective it is!

I would really recommend it to anyone who wants to learn japanese.

  2. Mate it will takes years to learn Japanese properly.

I recommend Human Japanese software: http://www.humanjapanese.com/

    And http://www.japanesepod101.com/index.php

  3. I can help you. There is no "fast" way of learning. It takes TIME to learn a language, it may take a person 5 years to learn & another person 50 years.

    But, here are some tips.......

    * You don't need to buy expensive stuff, like rosetta stone. Just go to Books-a-million & buy some Japanese books

    * you DO need to learn lal the writing systems of Japan (Hiragana Katakana, & Kanji but DON'T start untill you know basic japanese. don't overload yourself)

    * don't learn by anime.....Unless you want to learn "I am going to kill you" & " Ninja" pluse anime people don't talk like normal people.

    * Find some Japanese friends...i can help with that.

    * Go to your local Japanese restrant...

    * Do some reasearch about Japan, It will help you better understand Japan & its people.

    * STUDY! Try & get in an hour a day. find a nice quiet spot to learn

*put japanese on your ipod/mp3 i know some awesome japanese singers! i meen whats better than listing to japanese music while you study japanese, or just for on the go learning & fun^^

*Try & start up a japanese learning club at your school (if you still got to school) & if there is an exchange student from japan, you have it made

    * ATLEAST know basic japanese befor you go & ask for help..don't make the nice japanese lady teach you everything.
