Where could I find information about the summer season and what it symbolizes?

I have writer's block and am working on an essay -- Wikipedia and google aren't helping in this case. I need information on what summer symbolizes, whether it's info on what summer means to certain cultures, or what summer has been used to signify in literature, or folklore about deities/fairies/mystical things, etc. that represent the summer season -- anything will help me at this point, really.

In many Pagan cultures, summer is the time for the fertility and abundance gods and goddesses.  You may want to check out the myths of Persephone/Kore and the song John Barleycorn.
