Question:

Where could I find plans / blueprints for a very old building?

There was a building (large old house or stately home kind of building) on a site we own in Surrey. It's no longer there, but the basement/cellar rooms are still there.

I would really like to get hold of some kind of building plan that would help 'map out' these areas and show any places that are still hidden or undiscovered.

Where would I start? Any options considered.

Also, who would I get to survey the basement to assess if it is structurally sound, or what needs to be done to make it safe?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

  1. Ordnance Survey

You'll need to get in touch with Surrey County Council - as they hold all of these records and such archives.  Local libraries are too small to archive such information.

    -=Property history=-

    Sources include:

    -Ordnance Survey

    -Tithe and enclosure maps

    -Manorial records

    -Census returns

    -Sale particulars

When requesting research on a property, it would be helpful if you could enclose with the application form a map on which you have clearly marked the property in question. This will enable us to locate your property precisely on older documents such as tithe maps.
