  1. The clip-on mics are called "Lavaliere" mics.

They come in two versions - wired and wireless.

The wired units are kind of a pain because of the wire... so most folks go for the wireless ones. They are not cheap.

UHF is best. VHF is OK. In either case, "full diversity" will keep interference to a minimum. the 900 MHz and 2.4GHz units are in the "ISM" band - this area of radio spectrum is shared with garage door openers, Wifi networks (those not in 5.8GHz) and cordless home phones. Chances you will get interference are high.

Does your camcorder have a Mic-in jack? Most do not.

    In any case...

    Sennheiser:

If you camcorder has a 1/8" mic-in jack, this is the easiest to connect because the body-pack uses a 1/8" jack, too.

    More commonly, Shure:

This system is handy because it comes with a handlheld and the clip-on mics.

You can go for wired, but the length of the wire will be limiting the distance from the camcorder - and an extension can introduce audio interference

You can also get this at Radio Shack - same price. The cable is 20 feet long. This means the camcorder can be about 12 feet away because of the height of the person speaking (sitting - about 4 feet) + the height of the camcorder on a tripod (about 4 feet)...

I cannot recommend Samson or Nady...
