There is a great book called "Fast Food Nation", it's extremely informative and a real eye-opener.  How chains started, why, how they've progressed.  Check it out from the library, it was a best-seller.

The history channel has a bit of food programming, as well as obviously the food network. If you are in high school or college, ask a librarian to help you sift through the huge amount of information you can locate through their catalogues, databases, etc.
