Take a stroll around the oldest cemetery in your area. Back then people were very descriptive on the older headstones.  Rest in Peace back then might have taken 4 lines to say.  You will also find these Cities of the Dead very beautiful and peacful.

We could answer you better if you told us what country you are in and if your question means:

1) Where can I find a selection of suitable, touching inscriptions for my late great grandfather's headstone?

2) My 4th great grandfather's headstone is now illegible. Where can I find out what it said originally?

If (1), you can't get a list of "original" inscriptions. You will have to compose one yourself. If you copy something, it is a copy, not an original.
