Downloading copyrighted music from popular artists is illegal.  However, there are sites where you can download music from independent artists under the Creative Commons License.  One of the best ones is jamendo.com.  The link is below.

Sometimes on youtube, if you search for the song you want, and after it, put the word "downloadable", you can get the song of a music sharing website. I haven't done this though, because it is illegal, but I've heard of people doing it.

youtube.  just download the videos you want and if you want just the music then you can use a program called AoA audio extractor and it will extract the audio from an .flv file (youtube video) and make it an mp3 which you can then import into itunes and put on your ipod.  by the way this is a LEGAL way to do it.  dont worry this is legal because every video that is uploaded to youtube is subject to the fair use policy which allows any person to take any video on youtube and do with it what they will which includes remixing it or simply extracting the audio or even just keeping a copy of it when you want to watch it and don't have internet.

do survays to earn points. use the points to custom order yourself a music download or cd or dvd or anything you like. Its legal and easy and it works. So far ive gotten a mouse pad and a headphone.

Do not download anything from limewire because thos are illigal and can give viruses.
