The location of Suwannaphum has been the subject of much debate, both scholarly and nationalistic. It remains one of the most mythified and contentious toponyms in the history of Asia. Asian history scholars have identified two regions as possible locations for the ancient Suwannaphum : Insular Southeast Asia or Southern India.

Could have been in Indonesia and Malaysia while centered at Java.

Could have been Southern India.

The Thai would have you believe it was in Thailand.

The Burmese people would have you believe it was in Burma.

These are all guesses with a bit of archaeological evidence to back them up. But, the first two are the most accepted ones.
