  1. Chopsticks originated in ancient China as early as the Shang dynasty (1600-1100 BC) [1] and were widely used throughout East Asia. Tools resembling chopsticks were also unearthed in the archaeological site Megiddo in Israel. This discovery may reveal the existence of a trade relationship between the Middle East and Asia in early antiquity or may be an independent parallel development. Chopsticks were also common household items of civilized Uyghurs on the Mongolian steppes during the 6th–8th centuries

  2. Chopsticks are not an invention, they are a discovery; they just have been modified over the millenia. Tribes all around the world have been using two sticks for tens of thousands of years to pick up everything from hot rocks (used for cooking), gathering medicinal plants, picking up dangerous/venomous small animals for gathering/consumption, and so on (and yes, eating).

Any country and/or culture claiming to have "invented" chopsticks is wrong. They can only lay claim to modifying them for various uses (most notably, eating).

    Basically, cavemen invented/discovered chopsticks.

  3. During the Middle Ages, aristocrats often favored silver chopsticks since it was thought that silver would turn color if it came into contact with poison.

The Chinese have been using chopsticks for five thousand years. People probably cooked their food in large pots, using twigs to remove it. Overtime, as population grew, people began chopping food into small pieces so it would cook more quickly. Small morsels of food could be eaten without knifes and so the twigs gradually turned into chopsticks.

Some people think that the great scholar Confucius, who lived from roughly 551 to 479 B.C., influenced the development of chopsticks. A vegetarian, Confucius believed knives would remind people of slaughterhouses and were too violent for use at the table.

  4. Chopsticks are a pair of small even-length tapered sticks, which are generally believed to have originated in ancient China, and are the traditional eating utensils of China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam

  5. I'm pretty sure it was China. Possibly Japan.
