  1. Joe Mauer has never been much of a power hitter; he only has 43 HR in 520+ career games, yet he possesses a .300 batting average. He's always been a patient contact hitter. I don't see how he can be a pansy; in his fourth full season, he has a career slugging percentage of .457, which isn't bad at all. Mauer is simply a singles hitter.

  2. Well, at least his 457 Slugging in the majors beats his 424 in the minors.

It is indeed a mystery why he hasn't yet developed more pop in his bat.  Maybe he needs to take the sweet swing and make it a little saltier.  A little more uppercut might help.

  3. EDIT: As others have pointed out, Joe has never been a true power hitter. He hits for average, he averages about 8 homeruns a year and is a singles/doubles type of hitter. He's certainly strong enough to hit those homers, but it's just not his style. He's more for hitting into the gaps and/or into the opposite sides of the field. He's no pansy, whatsoever.

  5. when did he have any power to lose?

  6. Hey you know what I'm from Minnesota and a die hard fan....Mauer's "lack of power", is fine with me.  Look at his batting average with runners in scoring position and average just in general.  I will sacrifice power for other production any day.

EDIT: yea I know he was supposed to  be a power hitter as a prospect, the power could still come.  You have to understand though that his average would most likely drop with added power.  But I am honestly cool with what he's doing, look how many runs he has, way more than most catchers.

  7. His lifetime slugging percentage to date is .457 (5 seasons).

    What was the question?

  8. Hes always been a contact hitter

    2006- 13 HR 84 RBI

    2007- 7 HR 60 RBI

    2008- 8 HR 62 RBI
