  1. I don't beleive Pat morita was ever a practitioner of the martial arts, other then what he needed to learn for the movies.

  2. Master Roshi

  3. in the movie his father taught him but in real life fumio demura was his stunt double and the guy who showed him what to do on camera...  fumio also helped him perfect his broken english... nearly got him an oscar

    edit

pat morita spoke perfect english.. he basically did his own version af fumio demuras accent and broken english... and a d**n fine job he did.. as sick as it sounds he is part of the reason that i started and remained in martial arts... its been 16 years now..

  4. His father in Okinawa. His father brought his style from mainland China adapting it with the local style. That is in the movie. In real life the actor has no accent and no martial arts training. Pat Morita said in an interview that when he saw the script an image of this persona developed in his mind and he stuck with that and tried to become that person in the movie. He was for a time that imaginary persona. Mr Morita did not use that style of acting before or since. He usually just played himself. I'm paraphrasing Mr. Morita's words from memory.

Miogi, Is a  father image as well as the nearly perfect teacher. Displaying patience persistence and grace. I love the line " No such thing as bad student only bad teacher. Teacher say student do." As instructors even though he is just a movie character he set a high standard we should try to live up to as teachers and fathers.

  5. Here is some help.. I found my training enhanced whenever I added one or two martial arts training. try the martialarm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A36HDEmT... The martial arm is the only martial arts training dummy that offers you complete realism in all your martial arts training. The martial arm moves and twists up, down, left and right just like a real opponent would.

  6. The name is MIYAGI  and there was a real MR MIYAGI  the founder of OKINAWAN GOJU RYU  karate .PAT MORITA doesn't do martial arts. The kata you see or bits of kata you see in those movies are GOJU kata .Some of his comments are pure old school OKINAWAN TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS.

When daniel asks him "you got a black belt or somethin" MIYAGI says"yes for hold up pants" implying that's all a belt was good for.TRUE.

  7. From Arthur Fonzarelli. When Arnold's was closed, they would secretly train there. :-)

  8. Did Pat Morita ever really learn some form of Karate, it looked like a stunt man with some padding and a bald wig.

  9. Also... I could swear that Pat Morita spoke clear english with no accent.. anyone else know this to be true?

Demura himself has an accent, doesn't he?

Man, I gotta find this out for myself.

But Miyagi was supposed to be son of Miyagi Chojun. I wonder how Miyagi Ken feels... the real son! LOL!

In actuality, Miyagi Ken is not an inheritor or even following his father's footsteps. He did not really study with his father. Maybe he knows the kata but I don't believe he has any mastery in it.

OK I found it - Here he is on video http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=e...

  10. He learnt it in Japan or Korea, which ever one he came form.

Try watching Karate Kid 3 this will explain it
