My maiden name is GOLLEHER. My dad always told me that it was Irish. Is this true?

  1. I believe it is a variant of Gallagher/ Gallaher which would place it in Ireland  A lot of Irish and Scots Gaelic names vary in spelling when Anglicised Also remember when these families emigrated to places such as the US and Australia many could not  read or write and the variance in spellings occurred when the person at the other end wrote it down as it sounded .

  2. Yes, it is an old gaelic name that somehow survived the british. I won't give my exact but suffice to say the spelling was changed considerably and why there so many ways to spell Daily ie. Daly, Daley, Daily, Dailey, etc.

  3. yes. irish.
