Men are the protectors of women and children, and if there weren't enough lifeboats, they women and children would be saved. It's politeness to the extreme. It's how it's supposed to work, really.

Probably England King Arthur times when chivalry ruled. When women didn't steal men's jobs were loyal to men of their country, religion and race. French women married French men. Marriages were arranged based on assets they could bring  to men such as dowry's not what men could give women.  Marriages were for life. Women cooked all men's meals did all their wash. Women didn't sleep with other guys or complain about how little money their man made. They were grateful for the food the man's family provided. Women didn't run for president and were  submissive to men.  Today good or bad equality means everybody for themselves men too. Women now a days want preferential treatment and equal rights. Basically have their cake and eat it.  Women have so much stacked in their favor nowadays many men don't feel sorry for them anymore. Very few women fell sorry for guys that can't provide for the family or who don't have money so why reciprocate.I worked with a women who got a guy fired with 6 kids she could care less about him and how he would support his family. Women in general are disloyal and money centered. That's why men are often disloyal in return and are reluctant to help them financially. Kids are another matter. They could go first.
