  1. Ofer beat me to it,  but Herr Lust bought the term to use in America.  He was not the one who coined it.

The American naturopathy movement was based on the Eurpean (especially German) craze for "nature cures".  This involved a lot of common sense things like exercise and diet, less healthy things in retrospect like getting lots of sunshine, and completley wacko stuff like "water cures", detoxifying purges and enemas, and all the other weird stuff Naturopaths are known for today

  2. the term naturopathy was coined before 1900, by dr John Scheel  and used by Benedict Lust who founded the "American School of Naturopathy" in New York, the first naturopathic college in the United States.

  3. Homoeopath, I heard. this naturopath is a NEW  term, to live in accordance with nature and later to land in ALLOPATH(Y) for recovery.
