  3. This is not an easy question to answer, because most of early Irish history is shrouded in myth.

The first inhabitants of the Ireland probably settled on the island around 7300BC and came from somewhere in continental Europe, perhaps Spain.

According to legend, there were six invasions of Ireland during its pre-history, ranging from the time of Noah and the flood to the first century BC. These included the Fomorians, Nemedians, Fir Bolg, Tuatha Dé Danann, and Milesians. At least some of these invasions probably have a basis in reality.

According to Irish legend, the Fir Bolg were a group of invaders who came from Britain. These people were likely Belgian, and having settled in parts of Britain, also invaded Ireland. There is some archaeological and genetic suggestions of this.

The final group of invaders in Irish legend are called Milesians, supposedly named after the father of the leaders, Mil Espaine (which means soldier of Spain). They are probably based on the invaders from northern Spain who settled in Ireland around 100BC. They were Celt-Iberians (Celts living in Spain), who, perhaps under pressure from the Romans, sailed to Ireland and wrested control of the island from the rulers and brought continental Celtic culture to the island.

The Romans never invaded Ireland. However, the Vikings did. The Vikings settled Dublin and had a strong influence throughout Ireland, especially the northeast.

Recent DNA analysis of Y-Chromosomes show that the Irish are related most to people from Spain and Scandinavia. The closest genetic match are with Basques from Northern Spain. But the genetic evidence also suggests that at least some of the ancestors of the Irish had been there since the end of the last Ice Age.

  4. They started in North West Russia, and slowly migrated to what is now France.  They went into the British Islands and occupied first England and the Ireland.  Some of them moved into Scotland and the the Romans came into the scene followed by the Germans.  Most of the people, genetically in Ireland and Scotland.  They were and are the Celts.  The French are very Celtic still too.

  5. I believe that the Irish descended from a tribe called the CELTS

  6. I'm Irish and I come from a little known land called Ireland.
