The Mayans were located in southern Mexico and northern central America.  They had advanced methods of calculating time and seasons, they saw time as cyclical not linear as western society tends to.  They used slash and burn, swidden farming methods and erected magnificent temples in the middle of the tropical jungles.  Their society collapsed about 600 years prior to European arrival.  They had vast trade networks, stratified society, metal working, and did use human sacrifice near the end of the civilization to try and stave off the collapse.

The Aztec were centered on what is now Mexico city.  The built complex temple compounds as well and engaged in warfare for the purpose of capturing victims for sacrifice.  They had a three sisters dominated diet (corn, beans and squash) along with peppers.  Their gardens were amazing structures.  They were built up in swamp land creating a canal system.  The plant debris would be dumped back into the canals where it would decompose leaving fertile mud which was then dug out to keep the canals clear and the mud added to the plots as fertalizer.  Highly stratified society, paintings from the Aztec show detailed scenes of ritual and sacrifice.  The arrival of Europeans and their subsequent conquest of the empire signaled the end of this great civilization.  The statement by the European refers to the fact that at this time the city of Tenochtitlan was larger than London (the largest European city) and did not have the same level of pollution or disease (until small pox arrived).  It was also built in the center of a lake and the temples to the sun and the moon would have been visible from miles away.

The Inca empire was located in Peru.  The basis of their agriculture was terracing the slopes of the Andes to grow potatoes.  The Inca had several varieties of potato which grew at different altitudes and temperatures.  A farming plot would be narrow but stretch across these different altitudes assuring a failure in one variety would not destroy all of an individuals food source.  The Inca used cocaine as a military tool.  Chewing the leaves it was said the army could march for four days and four nights without food, water or rest and arrive ready to fight.

Usually, I either answer or ignore these homework questions.  But, dude, these guys were amazing.  I'm guessing you don't know too much about them, but they are definitely worth the read.  Heh, if you get really into it, I just finished a book called _1491_, and it has some great stories.

But, just to be nice: the Mayans were on the Yucatan.  The Incas were along the Pacific coast of South America.  The Aztecs were in the bit of Mexico to the north of the Yucatan.  Tenochtitlan was an amazing city, at least as big as Paris was back then, but far, far cleaner.
