  1. It comes from the practice of dosing them with diuretics to make them lighter before a race.

  2. I never heard that expression, and I'm a grandpa. I once heard a guy say you have to sh*t on the run like a Russian race horse, as in you don't have time to stop and take care of it properly.

  3. "Show horses and racehorses spend a great deal of time in their pens and come to feel safe and secure there. They don't like to urinate outside of those pens and in many cases won't.

In fact show and racehorses are frequently returned to their pens to allow them to urinate. Hence racehorses are often walking around outside of their pens with an urgent need to urinate."

    Interesting!

    EDIT

"Alternative: This phrase originated in the practice of giving diuretics to racehorses. The horse would then urinate substantially and drop a few pounds in the process. Voila! A lighter, faster, somewhat dehydrated horse."

  4. It means someone has to pee...very badly.

I'm not sure where the phrase came from, though.

EDIT: No one said you were an idiot, and if you KNEW what it meant...then what's the point in typing "Just curious as to what it really means.." ....
